Another Bean Bag and a Cushion Cover

My friend Delphine was here yesterday to make another bean bag; this time for her little boy Tristan. His birthday is two days before Little Miss Bossy-Boots’ and as her children have been fighting over the first bean bag she made (with a little help from yours truly) for Charlotte, she decided to make a second one.

While the children were playing and Delphine was busy with the bean bag I thought I’d sneak in some work on my cushion cover for the swap. I only have till Monday before I have to send it off and I’d prefer to send it off a little earlier. I had a gigantic freak out a few days ago when I realised how close the deadline was. Imagine how I felt when I had a little peek at the cushions that have already been sent off by the other members of the cushion swap and I saw one that was incredibly similar to the one I had planned to make. Change of plan. Well. That was after having a major wobbly in the privacy of my own home. Luckily inspiration hit me again and I’m really hoping that my vision will work out well. It looks beautiful in my head…

Curious? Come back tomorrow for the big “Ta-dah!” moment.

Fairies and Lilac

Master, Little Miss Bossy-Boots and I duly went to the fabric shop to buy some fabric for the bean bag. I had visions of crisp stripes, funky dots or a gorgeous floral and was really excited. However, I had promised Little Miss Bossy-Boots that she could pick the fabric herself. A task which she absolutely loved.

She ran around very quickly to find all the pinks and purples and picked a lovely voile with butterflies on. Sadly, I had to tell her that she couldn’t use that material as it was just too thin and wouldn’t survive as a bean bag cover for very long. I tried to steer her toward a gorgeous pink, white and green stripe that would look really good in her room but she took one look and rejected it straightaway. Bean bag

After watching Kirstie’s Homemade Home my lovely friend Delphine asked me if I could help her make a bean bag for her daughter. I jumped at this occasion as I have been wanting to make one for my daughter for quite a while.

A few years ago I bought two bags of polystyrene “beans” to make a bed for our dog Aron. The bed was duly made, filled and rejected. So, out came the polystyrene and in went the hollowfibre filling. Hey, presto! Aron has loved his bed ever since. The polystyrene beads ended up in the attic before being moved to the garage when we moved house. Master has been asking me periodically to get rid of them but I knew they would come in handy one day (I admit I am a bit of a hoarder).
