Busy Bee

I have been very busy and it has made my blog take a back seat. Busy with what you might wonder.

Well, fairly boring stuff such as alterations for a lovely elderly gentleman (shortening trousers and sleeves) which take time because I always try to make the best job I can. He was very pleased with the result.

Fun stuff like almost finishing a bag for my wonderful neighbour. I really enjoy making bags to order as people choose fabrics that I wouldn’t have picked myself but when I see the result I wonder why I never thought of using this kind of fabric or these colours. All I have to do is make and attach the handles. Today.

I’ve also had a meeting of the alternative WI that a few of my friends and I have recently founded. We haven’t got a proper name for it yet but one suggestion was “Chat or Do” as we have met twice and no crafting whatsoever has been done so far. Furthermore, we didn’t even talk about it until one of the girls said she really had to leave. Twice! It’ll be interesting to see what happens this Monday as we all vowed to bring something to do….

A committee meeting for the Little Miss Bossy-Boots’ Pre-School (I’m on the fundraising committee) which took all evening. The location of our pre-school is fantastic, it’s in the Church Hall and has a huge garden the children can run around in. Last year we started a gardening club and won an award! We are, of course, very proud of this achievement in our first year and would like to repeat this performance so on Saturday some of us went over to tidy in the garden and start some seeds off in the green house. With the help of our children of course. Little Miss Bossy-Boots got very upset when one of the other children picked the pink trowel before she could stake a claim.

After lunch that day I went into our own garden to fill sand in the sandpit. With the lovely weather we’ve been having lately Little Miss Bossy-Boots, Aron the dog and I just don’t seem to be able to stay inside. This year I decided to put the sandpit on some slabs to preserve our lawn (we have a man coming in to cut our lawn and he kept moving the sandpit which meant we had a very patchy lawn). On a bit of a whim I decided to sink the slabs into the lawn so as to make it easier for David to mow the lawn. I’m very proud of my handiwork and might just share it a later stage.

A bored teenager offered us a night out. Yesterday evening we got a phone call from next door. Would we like a babysitter for tonight? We jumped at the chance and went to the cinema to see “The Adjustment Bureau”. Great film, I enjoyed it very much. It reminded me a little bit of the fantastic children’s book “Momo” by Michael Ende.

With all of this going on this week I just haven’t been able to do what I really wanted to do: a tutorial for an Amigurumi fish. Hopefully it will rain today which will keep me inside and working on my tutorial.

On a completely different note, I would like to take a minute to think of all the people in Japan whose lives are in complete turmoil. It makes me realise that our woes are completely insignificant. My thoughts are with them and their families.
