I’m still here

Oh yes, I have been making stuff but just haven’t had much access to the computer to work on new posts. Whenever Master is around I don’t get to see the computer at all. That’s right, we share a computer which is totally fine during the week but not quite as great at weekends with him (i.e. Master) being a geek. Now add to this a weekend with friends and a nephew where all the boys are geek and  you can imagine that I did not even get anywhere near the study door. That’s ok, though, as Little Miss Bossy-Boots and I got to spend some time with lovely Helen and cute Keiran instead. Happy Families.

We managed to extract the boys from the computer on Saturday and went to Hamerton Zoo to look at all the animals. I admit I fell in love with this lazy wallaby.

Now it’s back to the sewing machine!

the date

I was going to show you the bag I made for a little girl’s birthday today but I think I will keep it till tomorrow as my mind is on something completely different today.

The 6th April was my beloved grandmother’s birthday. It is also the date my heart stopped during an operation seven years ago and I had to be resuscitated. I knew nothing about it until the following day when the surgeon and anaesthetist came to my room and told me I gave them “a bit of a fright”. The only thing I knew was that I felt rotten. I’d had an operation two weeks previously; also under full anaesthetic and everything had gone well. I even went home the same day.

Well, when I woke up after the second op I felt really, really terrible. It took me forever to actually be able to keep my eyes open for more than two seconds and I did realise that this operation had taken its toll on my body. However, I thought it was simply because it’s no fun for your body to have two operations under full anaesthetic within two weeks.

Meanwhile, Master was sitting at home not knowing what was going on until very, very much later when I managed to call him. As he was “only” my boyfriend at the time the hospital didn’t contact him to report what had happened. I can only imagine how he was feeling at the time.

Seven years later I’m still here to tell the tale and I’m very grateful about that.

Gratulerer med dagen, mormor!

Happiness

Hurrah! I found my camera! This has made me incredibly happy as I feel a little bit lost without it. With most of our family and friends being in Switzerland, Ireland and Norway (with a bit of Denmark and America thrown in) I like to think of the pictures we take as the best way to keep a close connexion with them.

Other things that make me really happy are

– hugs and kisses from Little Miss Bossy-Boots

– watching Master and Little Miss Bossy-Boots playing robots or tickle monster

– spring sunshine

– sitting on my bench in the garden with a cup of tea

– listening to two (or more) little girls playing in the sand pit

– seeing Aron’s smiling face when he’s running around in the woods. Aron, by the way, is our dog.

– being greeted by our two cats in the morning

– finding a beautiful stone

– singing and dancing very badly while doing the housework

– my seedlings

This is a lupin, my all time favourite flower. I believe this one is pink (yep, I ‘stole’ some seeds from my lovely neighbour’s plant). For years I have been dreaming of owning a red lupin but I always seem to miss them at the garden centre. Maybe this year will be THE year…. Hint, hint.

This is a beautiful bright pink hollyhock. Little Miss Bossy-Boots chose these seeds. I’m not sure if they are particularly difficult to get to germinate or not but I planted 12 seeds and this is the only seedling that grew. Maybe it’s just me.

There’s so much more but I’ll leave it at that for now. You might get very, very bored if I continue.

What makes you happy?

Oops!

I have been making some things for the stall I have at the Easter Fete this Saturday and would love to show them in this blog. However, I’ve lost my camera and cannot find it anywhere.

I got the camera out because Little Miss Bossy-Boots’ godmother came up for the weekend and it’s been missing since. It looks like I might have to take the pictures with my iPhone but before I turn to these desperate measures I’m going to go on a camera hunt again.

Wish me luck…..

Busy Bee

I have been very busy and it has made my blog take a back seat. Busy with what you might wonder.

Well, fairly boring stuff such as alterations for a lovely elderly gentleman (shortening trousers and sleeves) which take time because I always try to make the best job I can. He was very pleased with the result.

Fun stuff like almost finishing a bag for my wonderful neighbour. I really enjoy making bags to order as people choose fabrics that I wouldn’t have picked myself but when I see the result I wonder why I never thought of using this kind of fabric or these colours. All I have to do is make and attach the handles. Today.

Spring

We went for a lovely walk in the countryside last week. The sun was shining and we found all these wonderful signs that spring had come to our little spot of the country: crocus, aconites, snow drops and daffodils.

My garden is showing its first colour too. Most of my pink hyacinths are out and I’m very tempted to pick a bunch of them and bring them in as it’s a very grey day today. I’ve planned a trip to the garden centre this morning just to get out a bit. I don’t really need anything but, who knows, I might just come home with some gorgeous spring blooms. There’s nothing like a bright yellow primrose to lift your mood and make you happy.

I’m hoping to get some sewing time today as I have a couple of things I really need to finish. Master has been feeling very poorly which meant that I didn’t get much time to do any crafting. He’s on antibiotics now and feeling a bit better which is great.

Winter

Do you like winter? I do.

My favourite season is autumn because the light is just so special. The colours are vibrant and I can’t think of anything nicer than going for a walk in the sunshine with my camera. The leaves whispering under my feet as I shuffle them about, seeing nature at its most radiant. Continue reading Winter

Temperature

I have so many different projects in my head and can’t wait to spend a little time at the sewing machine. However,  a poorly husband and child mean that I don’t get much done.

Yesterday afternoon was mostly spent in front of the TV with Little Miss Bossy-Boots. Playgroup rang to say she was running a temperature and could I please come and pick her up. The poor child really didn’t feel well and even refused a packet of crisps. So we sat down and watched “Peppa Pig” and “Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom” all afternoon. After a while I felt my mind drift, thinking of a bag and quilt I want to make. Continue reading Temperature
