2nd Day

I’m sure only a very enthusiastic mummy can see the beauty in this picture but for me this is just incredible. Little Miss Bossy-Boots’ room looks so big now even with all the tools, doors and ladders in it. I can’t wait for tomorrow!

A new beginning

Little Miss Bossy-Boots is incredibly excited. And so is her mummy. Because today the work on her new room has started. When we moved into this house she was eleven months old and still in her cot so we put her in the smallest room.

Now that she’s a big girl and in a big bed she really needs more space. Her little bookshelf is overflowing and her toys are in boxes under the bed. Yesterday I emptied her room and the space outside her room and as I’m typing this the wall is being pulled down. Check out the before photos:

Grotty carpet, jungle blind and Winnie the Pooh lamp will soon be gone.

This was the wall. Little Miss Bossy-Boots asked for the new wall to be pink so we got some tester pots and painted squares on the wall.

This is the obsolete cupboard and space outside her room which used to house the boiler and will be integrated into the room. Curious cat is optional.

I am so excited about this project and can’t wait to get my sewing room back to make a bean bag, some cushions and other girly things for this room. Check back tomorrow for pictures of the room without a wall….

A year of blogging

It’s a exactly a year since I started this blog and I’ve enjoyed it immensely. I admit that I’ve felt the pressure a couple of times when I hadn’t posted for a while but all in all I’ve loved it.

However, I haven’t posted as many tutorials as I had planned simply because they are more time-consuming than I thought they would. As I have a few almost finished ones (I’m just hoping for some better light for the photographs!) I’m going to challenge myself to post a tutorial every month.

This year I’m also going to challenge myself to try and finish all those UFOs (or WIPs, if you prefer) that are lying around the sewing room.

This little Shark Mug Rug was one of my UnFinished Objects until I bound it yesterday. Can’t wait to use it now.

It might be a bit wonky and all that but I don’t mind. Nobody is perfect.

The next UFO is already on the table getting the same treatment. I’m on a roll. Long may it continue….

Happy New Year!

We have had the most wonderful Christmas with some great gifts:

Little Miss Bossy-Boots got a LeapPad. I suppose this had to happen when the head of the family is a geek 🙂

A geek who loves Marvel Comics and therefore received a pair of slippers for Christmas. Poor man, he was hoping for a gadget…

Aron got a singing duck that is already driving me round the bend. Luckily he doesn’t press on the squeaker too often.

I got a scooter. No pictures of it yet but I will show it in all its glory as soon as the weather is less miserable. Oh yes, I’m a fair-weather-scooter.

Enough of the past, I really wanted to wish you all a very happy New Year! I hope all your wishes and dreams for this year will come true.

I’m looking forward to more sewing adventures and (if everything goes according to plan) a move back to the Old Country. I’ll keep you posted.

Thank you so much for dropping in!

All the best, Elisabeth

Merry Christmas

I would like to wish everyone a lovely Christmas!

We have had a really relaxed Christmas this year. Little Miss Bossy-Boots didn’t wake up till 7.30am which was fantastic. After looking through our stockings we went downstairs to check whether Santa had been. Of course he had! We were all trying very hard to be good the last couple of weeks and we seem to have succeeded as this picture will show you:

No crafting today but I have a few projects I’m looking forward to make and show you soon. Thank you for reading my blog and see you soon!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Hello again. I feel like I’m finally back mentally as well as physically. Going home to Switzerland is really nice and I love seeing my family and friends. I usually get a few hours on my own to do a spot of shopping without Little Miss Bossy-Boots. Bliss.

On the other hand, though, I’ve found the last two trips hard as I miss my Dad. It takes me a little while to shake off the feeling of sadness that fills me but now I’m looking forward to Christmas.

Little Miss Bossy-Boots, Master and I went to get our Christmas tree on Saturday. Sunday morning the ‘girls’ had a decorating session.

As you can see our Christmas tree is very pink and purple. Want to guess who chose the decorations? I don’t mind. Christmas is for kids and if little Miss Bossy-Boots wants a pink Christmas tree then I’m happy to oblige.

We hung up our stockings as well.

I made the stockings two years ago and still love them. Master’s stocking is a very traditional stocking in red wool with a fluffy white cuff and an appliquéd snowman as well as his name. Here’s a close up of the snowman:

The hat was cut out from black waterproof rucksack fabric and the buttons are vintage Victorian buttons. I bought them years ago at an antiques fair and was just waiting for an opportunity to use them. The nose is a tiny cone that I made out of orange fabric.

Little Miss Bossy-Boots’ stocking is traditional, too. She doesn’t like it much at the moment because it isn’t pink but I hope that it will be a treasured heirloom one day (only kidding, if she’s still that much into pink next year I’ll probably make her a pink one).

I love the Rudolph the Reindeer’s shiny red nose.

Mine had to be finished in about five minutes as I made it on Christmas Eve and it was getting rather late. I painted my name on, slapped some hearts on with bondaweb and added some ribbons at the top. Nothing special. The fabric, however, is very special as it’s from the sixties and used to be one of my mother’s dresses. Love it.

Grüessech!

Grüessech means “Hello!” in Swiss German. I’ve been enjoying some down time in Switzerland being spoilt rotten by my mum.

My mum has been knitting a scarf for Little Miss Bossy-Boots. It’s a lovely pink (no surprises there) and really soft. On top of that it’s really practical as it isn’t long and doesn’t have to be wound around her little neck. Little Miss Bossy-Boots hates everything that is restrictive and isn’t a fan of scarves at all. This one, however, she loves to wear.

The end of the scarf slots into a loop which means it stays nice and snug around the neck and there isn’t a big knot which restricts movement of the head. The scarf is modelled by my Dad’s old Teddy Bear. He got him when he was two years old (my Dad, not the Teddy) and was afraid of him. I think the bear was just too big.

I haven’t been sitting on my hands either. Kris, my sister, brought me some wool which looks more like a net and is knitted with really big needles. It took me a little while to wrap my head round the concept of knitting with a net but once I got going I finished the scarf in no time.

It looks almost like a feather boa and I’m not sure whether it’s really “me” so it might go to a new home at Christmas. Despite that I’ve started another one. Idle hands and all that….

Right, I’m off to eat some more chocolate. See you back in England.

Tschüss!

Holidays

Hello! Yes, I’m still around. Just. I’m on my way home to Switzerland for a week and I will try to blog a little bit from there.

After I finally felt better Little Miss Bossy-Boots started feeling rough, throwing up and coughing. Hence the non-blogging. I have lots of things to show you, though. It will have to wait until I get back but I do have not one but three tutorials almost ready for you.

Right, I’d better go. Don’t want to miss my flight, do I?

Snow

These last few weeks have been difficult as I’m struggling with the most horrendous cold. It’s still with me but I can feel that I’m going to be back to normal again soon. Despite not feeling well I’ve been trying to get some sewing and crocheting done as I have a stall at my daughter’s Christmas Fayre. Let’s just say it might be quite empty….

On Sunday, Little Miss Bossy-Boots wasn’t feeling well so I sat on the sofa with her in the afternoon watching not one but TWO films. I can’t just sit there doing nothing and as I’d finished my scarf by then I decided to crochet some hearts and snowflakes.

The snowflakes are a free pattern by Lucy from Attic 24. If you haven’t discovered her yet, please, do hop over and have a look; you won’t regret it, I’m sure. I love her blog and I love all her colourful crochet projects. Her Blooming Flower Cushion is on my to-do list and I’m really hoping to get some hooky time in over the holidays.

BTW if you’re wondering what I’m going to make with the gazillion snowflakes I’ve crocheted already come back later…
