Florence Fish

I am in the process of writing a tutorial on how to crochet this lovely but very easy fish. Somehow it seems to take much longer than anticipated. So, here’s a little taster:

Cute, isn’t she?

Busy Bee

I have been very busy and it has made my blog take a back seat. Busy with what you might wonder.

Well, fairly boring stuff such as alterations for a lovely elderly gentleman (shortening trousers and sleeves) which take time because I always try to make the best job I can. He was very pleased with the result.

Fun stuff like almost finishing a bag for my wonderful neighbour. I really enjoy making bags to order as people choose fabrics that I wouldn’t have picked myself but when I see the result I wonder why I never thought of using this kind of fabric or these colours. All I have to do is make and attach the handles. Today.

Spring

We went for a lovely walk in the countryside last week. The sun was shining and we found all these wonderful signs that spring had come to our little spot of the country: crocus, aconites, snow drops and daffodils.

My garden is showing its first colour too. Most of my pink hyacinths are out and I’m very tempted to pick a bunch of them and bring them in as it’s a very grey day today. I’ve planned a trip to the garden centre this morning just to get out a bit. I don’t really need anything but, who knows, I might just come home with some gorgeous spring blooms. There’s nothing like a bright yellow primrose to lift your mood and make you happy.

I’m hoping to get some sewing time today as I have a couple of things I really need to finish. Master has been feeling very poorly which meant that I didn’t get much time to do any crafting. He’s on antibiotics now and feeling a bit better which is great.

Ribbon Flower Hair Clips

Today I made some hair clips and ties in preparation for my next stall at the end of March. As the mother of a little girl who believes that blue, green, brown, yellow, white, etc are all colours for boys and only pink and purple are for girls I went for pink and red for my trial run. Just in case they don’t sell and stay with us. The plan is to take them with me to various outings and ask the mums if they would buy them if I made loads and made them in various colours (after all, not every girl is like Little Miss Bossy-Boots).

Hair clips with ribbon flowers:

All you need for them is some ribbon, buttons, two hair clips, a needle and thread and a hot glue gun. Don’t worry if you haven’t got a hot glue gun, you can sew your little flowers onto the hair clips too.

Chop stick

Have you got a favourite tool in your sewing room?

I love my chop stick. It’s just a simple free chop stick that came with our takeaway Chinese. I have sanded it to round all the corners and that’s it. The idea to use a chop stick as a tool came while reading a craft blog (sadly I can’t remember which one it was) and I have to say it was a great tip. It just comes in so handy to turn corners when sewing, stuffing my amigurumis, flattening seams etc. Continue reading Chop stick

Baba’s Gift

We have just come back from a week in Switzerland to celebrate my dad’s 75th birthday.

It was quite funny because I knew ages ago that I wanted to go home for that occasion and was waiting for Master to book his holiday so that we could book flights and a hotel (my parents live in a flat with no guest bedroom). I thought about which suitcases we were going to bring and what I was going to pack. I thought that I had thought of everything until I realised in a panic that I had forgotten one small but very crucial detail: a gift for Baba. Continue reading Baba’s Gift

Winter

Do you like winter? I do.

My favourite season is autumn because the light is just so special. The colours are vibrant and I can’t think of anything nicer than going for a walk in the sunshine with my camera. The leaves whispering under my feet as I shuffle them about, seeing nature at its most radiant. Continue reading Winter

Creativity

Little Miss Bossy-Boots is taking after her mummy when it comes to being creative. She loves nothing more than to paint/draw and  play with her Play-Doh. This morning I came downstairs after my shower and found her at the table with the big bottles of paint, which I thought were securely locked away under the stairs on the top shelf. Big mistake! Finished!

It took me much longer than anticipated to finish this little amigurumi which I started when Little Miss Bossy-Boots was ill. Life just suddenly filled up with everything but time to sew or crochet.

However, here’s the finished project: Xolpoth, the Alien.

I started making amigurumis last year after receiving The Encyclopedia of Crochet Techniques by Jan Eaton and seeing a picture of “Binky Rabbit” in the gallery section. It was love at first sight and I decided to try making something like that. I didn’t have a pattern and that was quite evident when I looked at the finished project. It was a very strange looking “thing” that could only be identified as a rabbit because of its ears and tail and it ended up in the bin. Continue reading Finished!

Crochet

I didn’t manage to get any crocheting done Saturday afternoon despite sitting on the sofa with Little Miss Bossy-Boots. She was really poorly and wouldn’t leave my lap for even two seconds. This made me determined to get the crochet hook out on Sunday and this is what I came up with:

As you can see I didn’t get very far.  Any guesses at what it is? I’m hoping to be able to finish it today and post a picture tomorrow. Continue reading Crochet
